We Spray a Texture Sample Before We Touch Your Wall

A production crew isn't being careless. They're doing one thing over and over, at speed, with the gun set the same way all day. So the orange peel in your hallway, the fine even spatter you can feel with your hand, is very close to the orange peel next door. If yours is knockdown instead, that's the same spray gone over with a wide blade so it sits in flat patches. Either one repeats, which is what makes your repair easy to hide.

So a repair here is a matching job before it's a filling job. The size of the spatter is what gives a patch away, and a production spray has a particular one.
